Where can you be as messy as you´d like and not have to worry about the clean up? Messy Missy´s in the Meadowlane Mall, of course! Messy Missy´s is a paint-your-own pottery studio and graphic design business that opened in March of 2006 by owner Missy Sharer, a Marshalltown native. Sharer got the idea from other pottery studios in the Des Moines and Cedar Rapids areas.

The business offers unique ceramic pieces that customers paint with the glazes provided. The ceramic items are then given a clear coat over glaze and fired in a kiln. The process takes one week from start to finish. Pieces range in price from $2 to $50. There is also a $5 studio fee per person to paint. All items are food, dishwasher, oven, and microwave safe. Sharer encourages artists of all skill levels to pick up a paintbrush and give it a shot. "You don´t have to be a Picasso to paint! We have hundreds of pieces and all it really takes is a little bit of imagination." No appointment is necessary. In the winter open studio times are from 12 to 6 p.m. Monday–Wednesday–Thursday–Friday, 12 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. In the spring and summer the studio switches to business hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Every Tuesday is "Two-for-Tuesday" where two people can paint for the price of one studio fee all day long.
